Pepsis mildei - male

Pepsis mildei - Male
Johnson's Pasture, Claremont Hills Wilderness Park, Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA
July 16, 2016
On Narrow-Leaf Milkweed (Asclepias fascicularis) in the Johnson's Pasture section of the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park. Lots of Tarantula Hawks were out, especially on the milkweed, in fact this one of a different species was on the same plant.

I believe that in Southern California, the only tarantula hawk with orange antennae and dark apical bands on orange wings is Pepsis mildei. The straight, relatively thick antennae with 11 flagellomeres indicate that this individual is a male.
