Carabus auratus Clinton, Kennebec County, Maine, USA May 22, 2016
I did not see many adults this year (2016). This May was very wet and cold and they were not out crossing the roads in the bright sunlight as they were at the same time last year (2015). By the time it finally warmed up, I think their season was mostly over. I only saw a few adults in late May and early June (three in Benton and one in Orono). Yet, even though I was not seeing them, the beetles were still clearly abundant - this scat is almost 100% composed of this species!
