Robber Fly - Laphria - male

Robber Fly - Laphria - Male
Adams County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 9, 2007
Size: Approx. 1 inch
Wow! Didn't realize there were so many species of Robber Flies till I was looking for this one. I think it may be a Laphria sericea. Can someone verify or correct that ID? And gender it also.

Thanks,

Moved from Laphria sericea.

Complex
reviewing all these years later and this appears to be the undescribed species. It is not sericea and the terminus looks good for the undescribed.

Very fine
shot of the male Laphria sericea, with the pronounced golden mystax and beard.

Thanks
Herschel, would this be a female than?

Honestly
I am not sure that the female you link isn't aktis. I thought they didn't range as far north but aktis was actually defined by a specimen from PA. When the facial hair is not golden on a female it is tougher without a shot of the terminal abdomen or a close thorax.

Thanks Bob
for your reply, Herschel. I appreciate your willingness to help with IDs.
