Platycotis vittata? - Platycotis vittata - Female
Lake in the Woods Reservoir, Umpqua National forest, Douglas County, Oregon, USA
July 17, 2016
I submitted a similar tree hopper a year ago (BG# 1107192) but at that time I didn't realize the hind tarsi are helpful in the identification. ... All I got was 'Membracidae'. So I'm submitting another with clear tarsi. We've been watching these tree hoppers on a small clump of Sitka alder, about ten miles from any oak since 2013.
This year, for the first time, we found a tree hopper family that looks quite different. I'll be submitting photos of that one, separately, in a few minutes.
