Columbine Sawfly Larva - Pristiphora rufipes

Columbine Sawfly Larva - Pristiphora rufipes
Henrietta, Monroe County, New York, USA
July 17, 2016
Size: 11 mm length
It was on a potted columbine that was infested with them, and probably also infested with columbine leaf miners.

This introduced pest species has not previously been reported from New York State, although it has been reported from neighboring Ontario, Canada. The plant was bought from the garden department of a local big box store, and I strongly suspect that it was already infested when bought.
