Whitebanded fishing spider - Dolomedes albineus - female

Whitebanded fishing spider - Dolomedes albineus - Female
San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, USA
June 7, 2016
I never expected to find a fishing spider on my arachnid hunting trip, let alone within the city limits at South Side Lions Park. I wager the wooded creek flowing through the park was suitable habitat for her.

I actually found this beauty on the wall of a small storage building a short distance from the creek. She was right above the locked doors, which were hanging open slightly. I managed to coax her down to the ground without her darting behind them and vanishing.

Moved
Moved from Dolomedes tenebrosus.
D. albineus is a bit hairier than D. tenebrosus. D. tenebrosus also has this facial pattern:

D. albineus is more variable.

Oh wow!
I've seen many D. tenebrosus but have always wanted to see this species.

It didn't seem as intensely white/have such contrasting colors as other images of D. albineus in the gallery, so I figured it was the latter species.

Thanks for gifting me with valuable tidbits of information Laura!
