Size: 15-20 mm

not a showy fly- only observed once buy black and about the size of a Lasiglossum- noticed it using forelegs as antennae- usually alternately

We are finishing work on a field guide to hover flies of northeastern North America (http://www.canacoll.org/Diptera/Staff/Skevington/Syrphidae/Syrphidae.htm) that will be published later this year and would like to use this image if possible.
