Two species known from this remote desert locale - Apiocera macswaini -

Antelope Springs, Inyo County, California, USA

This male would probe into the detritus and under pebbles with its mouthparts; then clean the mouthparts with his front legs; and then hop to another spot and repeat. This continued the entire time I observed him (many minutes) at midday under a saltbush shrub.
