American Rubyspot with White Eyes - Hetaerina americana

American Rubyspot with White Eyes - Hetaerina americana
Wilbur Springs, California, USA
July 16, 2016
Warm day along Bear Creek with Tim Manolis and Leslie Flint. Had a brief look at the American Ruby near the creek and managed on a soft shot of what I figured to be a male American Rubyspot. When I later reviewed the photos I noticed the ivory-colored eyes, a feature I've never seen in Hetaerina americana, nor could I find information about this in Paulson's book or with an internet search. Is this color simply a function of age, perhaps indicating a teneral, or even a senescent individual?
