Imperial Moth - Eacles imperialis

Imperial Moth - Eacles imperialis
Bullitt County, Kentucky, USA
July 29, 2016
Three of these very large guys (gals?) woke my wife up at 3:30Am flapping their wings against the house under the porch light. She woke me so I could get their pictures. This one was on the sliding glass door glass so I was able to get a picture of the underside of the wings. Another one had a slight tear in a wing and the last one was pretty worn and beaten up looking. They are very large with an estimated 5 plus inch wingspan. It has been a few years since I saw one of these, are they becoming rare? (If they show up at 3:30AM and are gone by dawn that might explain why I haven't seen them!)
