Distinctively marked wasp (not that it helped!) - Stelis louisae

Distinctively marked wasp (not that it helped!) - Stelis louisae

I thought this distinctively marked wasp would not present too many problems, but it makes me want to stick with Odonata! Any help appreciated!

Megachilid bee ( Megachilidae)
Either a small resin bee (Anthidiellum) or a realted cuckoo-be of the genus Stelis. Good example of a wasp-mimic bee. Distinctive color pattern should nonetheless help a bee expert like John Ascher to an ID at the genus or even species level. Such encounters should not discourage you to continue with Hymenopterans. After all, some Odonata groups are somewhat tricky too...

I agree.
I am convinced it is Stelis, or a related genus.

Ah, yes
This guy is a perfect match: http://bugguide.net/node/view/69224/bgimage

I can't wait for "Hymenopterans Through Binoculars"!
