Range Extension
Moths formerly identified as N. scitipennis from your location and west would most likely be manitou which was raised to full species status from synonymy of scitipennis in recent the MONA Fascicle (1). The western limit for scitipennis is shown as northwest Iowa. However, this looks good for scitipennis; the gray medial patch on the forewing extends well beyond the pm line and a little beyond CuA2.

Correction
The gray area can extend beyond the pm. line of manitou but the pm. line would be better defined and more deeply scalloped.
