Antheraea polyphemus

Antheraea polyphemus
Boise, southwest idaho County, Idaho, USA
July 5, 2007
Size: guessing 3 inches
this big guy was on the side of my house in the late morning/early afternoon and stayed there for a couple hours, then disappeared. I've seen one other big moth alot like this a few years ago, but he ended up sitting on my front porch for a couple days and then dying :( from the moth outline page, I'd guess he was a silk/royal moth

cool! thanks! mine seems darker, but the markings are exactly the same

colour variation
If you look at the images in the guide here, you'll see that this species shows wide variation in colouration. I guess yours is a brunette ;)
