Sphenophorus sp.
I've tried to key this out, but it doesn't fit nicely to any species. It is not a good match to any of the species in my collection, and it isn't any of the species Aaron has previously sent me from Block Island (zeae, venatus, pertinax, minimus, cariosus, callosus, or australis).
I don't think it is S. parvulus due to size (9 mm pronotal-elytral length, much larger than any of the 20ish parvulus specimens I have, which Vaurie cites as being 6-8 mm), the beak is wider and not as arched, callosities at apex of elytra absent, and punctures on outer surface of front femora not dense. It still keys thru the same area as S. parvulus in Vaurie, but seems to go past that to S. coesifrons. But I don't think that is right either.
The pronotum has a median impunctate line (not raised) that doesn't quite reach the apex or base, and is broadly diamond shaped. There are two small impunctate spots flanking this diamond slightly ahead of the middle. No other vittae present. Punctures are uniformly sized on the pronotum.
Open to suggestions; I could be missing something. Maybe it's just an aberrant individual?

I don’t think so
I think I still have some 2017 beetles, but Brad Barnd should have the 2016 batch. I can check next time I’m on Block Island. Now that I have a proper camera, I’d like to take more non-moth photos, which I started on a bit this summer. I’d like to do some more beetle collecting especially, so expect more going forward!
