Robber fly, dorsal - Saropogon coquilletti - female

Robber fly, dorsal - Saropogon coquilletti - Female
Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, Socorro County, New Mexico, USA
July 30, 2016
Download high resolution image here.

This fly was attracted to an illuminated white sheet at night on 30 JUL 2016 near the visitor center of Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, San Acacia 7.5 minute quadrangle, Socorro Co., NM during Sevilleta Moth Night, sponsored by Amigos de la Sevilleta. The sheet was set up by the event's guest speaker Eric H. Metzler.

Given Herschel Raney's genus ID (comments below), the images here suffice to key it to species: the fly's four long marginal scutellum bristles, reddish abdomen, hyaline wings, black spotted anterior corners and gray pollinose posterior corners of abdominal segments 2-6 , grayish wing apices, and NM locality identify it as S. coquilletti. The yellowish legs identify it as female.

Thanks, Herschel Raney.

From
appearance and wing veins this is in Saropogon. Not sure it isn't S. bryanti.
