Neotibicen pruinosus

This is the second cicada I photographed this week, emerging from his nymphal stage. Trying to determine species, if possible at this young age?

identifying
There are ways to determine id, but experience is the best.
Keep in mind the margin of error is there and often times with several of these (especially the "Green Neotibicen spp.") the calls heard locally are important. Check the Insect Singers website for pruinosus call and compare to see if you hear that one in the area of the pic. The wing structure is not suggestive of linnei.

cicada songs...
I did as you suggested and for certain the most audible cicada in the evening at my house is the Scissor Grinder! Earlier in the day it is a mix of a couple others, but many of the former starting in late afternoon to early evening. Thanks!!

Will do!
I do a great deal of recording of sounds in the woods behind my house, here in WV and will compare to see if I can pick out species by sound. I am quite adept with frog sounds and can identify all of the WV species by their call, but didn't realize, until recently, that cicada calls were unique in this way!
