beetle - Phileurus truncatus

beetle - Phileurus truncatus
Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia, USA
August 6, 2016
Size: 1½ inches or 38mm long
Beetle found about noon. It was crawling slowly on the edge of the cover for the burner/pilot light compartment of hot water heater located in crawlspace under the house. Seemed to be shy of the light. I took it outside on the patio to photograph it. It crawled under some low plants.
