This is a male long-horned bee, about 3/8”long, found feeding on sunflowers. It has long reddish antennae, green eyes, a yellow clypeus, pale thorax hair and a black abdomen banded by pale bands of hair (set back from the rims on T-2 and T-3).

Is this a male Melissodes agilis? It has traits identified by the Discover Life database as characters for this species: (1) a vertex and thorax covered with off-white hairs (with no interspersed dark hairs); (2) light yellowish wing veins (vs. dark orange or brown in M. trinodis); (3) a large yellow area on its jaws; (4) clear rims on its terga (vs. dark brown in M. trinodis). (5) The first flagellar segment of the bee’s antennae is somewhat longer than the pedicel.
