Boyeria? - Boyeria vinosa

Boyeria? - Boyeria vinosa
Belmont, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
July 14, 2007
2 of the 4 exuviae I found yesterday.

Appear to key out to Boyeria vinosa, of which there was one flying a little further down the stream.
Interestingly, the stream had almost totally dried out where the exuviae were, guessing they must have been there for a little while.

Iris
Close examination of the base of the plant shows basal leaves arising in flat fan-like clusters typical of an iris. I suspect yours is the native wetland species, Northern Blue Flag (Iris versicolor).

Boyeria vinosa...agree!
Hi Jason,

These are indeed Boyeria vinosa, based on what I can see with the appendages on the end of the abdomen.
