Wow!
Definitely Parasitengona, and I agree with Heather that they seem more trombidioid-like. There are several interesting groups that hit bristletails, most notably Machilotrombium (Neothrombiidae) known only from New Mexico. Anyway, I would love the specimen if it is available. We are doing research on this group and could really use the sample. Is this possible?

send mites to Ray
Hi Matt:

In the email I sent you yesterday I said that I'd look at specimens, but it would make more sense to send them to Ray.

Cheers,
Heather

Re: Heather
Thanks Heather!

Thanks!
I honestly don't remember if I kept this one - it was back in 2012, and I know I kept some things (I did a lot of photographing things that year). The bristletail is common here, so I probably wouldn't have kept it on its own, but given the mites, it's possible I did. I'll let you know if I find them.

Update
Hi Matt, Any luck?

larval Parasitengona
Hi Matt:

Wow, very cool! I've never seen mites on bristletails before. This poor gal/fellow has quite a large load. Unfortunately, without having specimens in hand all I can say is Parasitengona, more likely Tromobidioidea than Erythraeoidea based on the larvae having short legs. I will send a pdf of the only paper I could find on parasitengones attached to bristletails in the next email.

Cheers,
Heather
