flightless (all spp. brachypterous); pronotum almost as wide as elytra, with a narrowed "waist"; elytra typically striated, punctate(2)(3)

e.US to AZ (most diverse in the south), with one sp. reaching s.ON and one ranging into Mexico(1)
Habitat
on the ground in deciduous woods and grasslands/meadows
