Carabid - Ophonus puncticeps

Carabid - Ophonus puncticeps
Block Island, Washington County, Rhode Island, USA
August 10, 2016
At lights

Ophonus puncticeps
is confirmed by my physical det. Thanks Aaron.

Moved
Moved from Ground Beetles. Yes, sort of. My lower magnification lens is scratched so images of larger carabids come out fuzzy. Medium sized ones I've generally been photographing with the higher magnification lens, which decreases the depth of field and leaves the edges distorted, and doesn't have a wide enough field of view for me to even include the legs and antennae in their entirety. My images of small specimens (for example: (1)) are therefore of much higher quality than those of medium to large specimens. I plan on replacing the lens for next year (and being more careful with it) so the quality will go back up to where it was in May but with improved lighting (see for example: (2).) I'm leaving the island for the season today so I've submitted all my carabid images for the year.

Ophonus puncticeps [p.t] is suggested by the pronotum
heavily punctate and sides sinuate. Aaron I presume you're troubleshooting photographic clarity and lighting. Lately I'm struggling with recognizing many of your posted images.
