Juvenile Earwig - male

Juvenile Earwig - Male
Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina, USA
July 15, 2007
This little earwig seemed very distinctive... he doesn't match young European earwigs.

All the keys I've seen only work reliably for adults.

One thing that might help would be a view of the feet, preferably close up: some of the families can be distinguished by pads or other structures on the undersides of the tarsi, aka "toes" or "feet".

Other characteristics like shape of the cerci/pincers, wings, or number of segments in the antennae are just too variable with age to be useful.
