Orange black moth - Cisthene tenuifascia

Orange black moth - Cisthene tenuifascia
Henryetta, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, USA
August 13, 2016
came to black light.

Moved
Moved from Kentucky Lichen Moth. After further review, it can be seen that the shape of the basal orange streaks (rather straight edged), their narrow connection to the orange postmedian band, and the nearly parallel-sided shape of the PM band all point to C. tenuifascia. A fresh Kentucky Lichen Moth would also have a jet black ground color rather than the dark charcoal gray seen here. This example is pretty typical for tenuifascia except that the PM band is a little wider than most examples in Texas and elsewhere.

Thanks Chuck.

Cisthene sp.
To my knowledge, Cisthene kentuckiensis is listed for OK based on three records in the Lepidopterist's Society online database. Two other purported BG records both appear to be C. picta based on their solid orange thorax. The present moth may not be separable from the more common and widespread C. tenuifascia.

Looks like
a Kentucky Lichen Moth (Cisthene kentuckiensis).
