Red-banded Hairstreak - Calycopis cecrops

Red-banded Hairstreak - Calycopis cecrops
Bay Shore, Suffolk County, New York, USA
August 20, 2016
Possible oak hairstreak. Found on my car slowly rubbing its hind wings together. Momentarily resting for a few seconds. This lasted for at least 15 minutes from when I first noticed it. Is there a known purpose for this activity? Do you accept videos, I took one of the aforementioned behavior?

Red-banded Hairstreak
Tail rubbing is a common defensive ploy by hairstreaks. Better to lose tail than head.

Moved from ID Request.

Thanks for the id and the behavioral explanation.
