Fly with feathered antennae - Ripiphorus

Fly with feathered antennae - Ripiphorus
Portland, Cumberland County, Maine, USA
July 12, 2007
Size: 1/4 inch or less
Sorry, it's not a great picture. Mostly black with a bit of brown. Antennae look like combs. Any clues?

Moved from Ripiphorus.

Not a fly
It's a beetle- no doubt something in the family Ripiphoridae The hardened front wings that in most beetles act like a shell over the whole body are reduced to tiny "shoulder pads"

yes, Ripiphorus sp.
