Fly with feathered antennae -
Ripiphorus
Portland, Cumberland County, Maine, USA
July 12, 2007
Size: 1/4 inch or less
Sorry, it's not a great picture. Mostly black with a bit of brown. Antennae look like combs. Any clues?

Not a fly
It's a beetle- no doubt something in the family
Ripiphoridae
The hardened front wings that in most beetles act like a shell over the whole body are reduced to tiny "shoulder pads"

Thanks!
..for pointing me in the right direction, and the quick response. It does look like something in that family.
