Tiny Bee? - Tachysphex

Tiny Bee? - Tachysphex
Brighton, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada
July 16, 2007
Size: 1/4 inch app.
This tiny bee expended a lot of energy digging this hole yesterday. Today I noticed that it is gone. I have not seen a little bee like this with the striped abdomen and bright red tip previously.

Moved
Moved from Tachysphex.

Larrini
not a square-headed wasp as those are Crabronini

I don't think this is Tachytes

Ah...
BG has all Craboninae as the square-headed wasps. *shrug*

Square-headed wasp?
I saw a little wasp like this a year or so ago & Eric Eaton said it was a square-headed wasp; Crabonidae subfamily Craboninae tribe Larrini. I bet that's what you've got, too. Maybe Tachytes.

Tachysphex.
This is most likely a species of Tachysphex. Small size, bicolored abdomen are suggestive, anyway. Moving to that genus for now, but will not be disappointed if I'm corrected later:-) This is an outstanding image, too, Naomi.
