It was on salmonberry but there is plenty of fireweed nearby. I think I alarmed it when I walked near it and it flew to the salmonberry bush

Quite possible
if fireweed is common in the area keep an eye out for more of these... there are also 2 sympatric species in the genus in Alaska that also occur on the same plants. Would be a great addition to the guide :)
