Melaleuca Psyllid - Boreioglycaspis melaleucae - male

Melaleuca Psyllid - Boreioglycaspis melaleucae - Male
Lakewood, Los Angeles County, California, USA
August 25, 2016
First detected in CA near LAX in 2009, but not thought to be established in the state. This is the first record I know of the species since that collection. A very heavy infestation easily visible from afar by the white wax all over the leaves, with many adults and nymphs per leaf, on ornamental Melaleuca quinquenervia.

The species has also been intentionally introduced into and established in Florida for biological control of the same host, which is an invasive weed there.

BugGuide now has pics of every member of the Spondyliaspidinae recorded from North America
