Gracillariidae wild mine on Virginia Creeper - Phyllocnistis ampelopsiella

Gracillariidae wild mine on Virginia Creeper - Phyllocnistis ampelopsiella
100 Acre Wood, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
August 9, 2016
August 9, 2016: looking close at the Pileated Woodpecker Tree (2016 Tree of the Year), then looking closer at the Virginia Creeper, Parthenocissus quinquefolia climbing on the tree, noticed a tiny pucker at leaf’s edge but not much else on the upper side of the leaf. Looked at the back side of the leaf and there were distinctive leaf mines. Continued looking at other Creeper leaves, on the tree and on the ground, lots more leaf mining. Collected several leaves.
