Mesovelia sp. - Mesovelia

Mesovelia sp. - Mesovelia
Lillypons Water Garden, Frederick County, Maryland, USA
August 20, 2016
Size: ~4mm est. from photo
I suspect this is M. mulsanti based on size alone but the photos don’t show whether there was a row of bristles under each of the front and middle femurs to nail it down.

FWIW, the ratio of the length of the first antennal segment to the “width of the head through the eyes” on this bug is ~1.15 (measured from photo). Epler says that for M. amoena the ratio is “3/4 or less” and for M. cryptophila the ratio is “about 0.9” (1)
