Blue feather bug - Platydracus maculosus
East setauket ny 11733, Suffolk county County, New York, USA
August 31, 2016
Size: About an inch
The blue feather? Or wing ? also when it walked it walked like a scorpion and was fast always seeking cover I had chopped a tree down and it kept trying to hide but when I poked w a stick it seemed to freeze. at the end of the "tail" there was pincers. as you can see the bug had very good camoflouge beside that blue thing which is a dead giveaway

The blue thing is its wing that folds up under the short wing covers (elytra).
