blue/green bug -
Cysteodemus wislizeni
Alamogordo, Otero County, New Mexico, USA
June 1, 2007
I found this hiking in New Mexico. In the sun light it looks matalic green (sometimes blue), but the pictures would not give it's full color.

Nice to see some Otero County bugs.
I saw this species as a kid at the Tularosa town dump in the 1950's.

Jim,
Does this bug have a common name? Maybe even a name that the native New Mexican's use.
Do you have any pictures of this kind of bug in your collection?

Sorry, no photos or common names :-(
I haven't lived in New Mexico since 1959 although I've visited in Las Cruces a couple times recently. I never saw them over there though.
There are other photos of them on bugguide though. Just click on the Cysteodemus link above this image to see them.

Meloidae???
Not sure at all, if it is a Meloidae we don't have anythig like it in my area.
But by the look of the head and the way the elytra don't cover all the abdomen, i feel safe enough to give it a try...
