Bug landed in fir tree branch. cloudy cool day.

Identity
This appears to be Laphria ferox, but it might be L. vivax. I hope Eric Fisher or another asilid expert will weigh in on this.

Impressive
looking atypical Laphria I assume. In Cannings landscape. There are 20 (!) Laphria in BC. More species than CA. They are cold tolerant beasts.
