Araneus? - Araneus

Araneus? - Araneus
Powell Marsh, Vilas County, Wisconsin, USA
September 1, 2016
Had just caught a bumblebee in the web, but hesitated for some reason. The bumble made a mighty effort and broke away.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Hey what are you doing in Vilas County!?
Any chance of a dorsal image? We would guess Araneus trifolium, but a dorsal would help confirm that.
Are the walleye biting?

Vacationing
No, I could not get a dorsal because when the bumble broke free, the spider finally went after it and disappeared in the vegetation. High drama.

I don't fish, but I have photographed three Aeshna and three Somatochlora species - so far!
