Star School Hill Prairie South, Atchison County, Missouri, USA

Size: 6+ mm, head to wing tips
June 30, 2016: M. Rice had just said be on the lookout for disturbed prairie clover as the rare longhorn beetle Megacyllene angulifera utilizes it. I had never seen prairie clover looking ragged but there one was, White Prairie Clover, Dalea candida, looking distraught. And sure enough, something was eating its roots, a lep larva. Unfortunately I did not get a photo of the larva as it was pretty indistinct, I didn't think I could actually rear it, and I didn't want to disturb it even more. My mistake.
