Keys to alates?
Hi, Gordon. Wondering if there are any keys to reproductive stages of ants. Seems like there should be since they are often the most conspicuous individuals....

Eric. That is one of my laments as well. Alate queens though will often key out thru worker keys. Males on the other hand are a real problem and most keys just will not work. In most cases keys are near impossible to construct for males due to the near total absence of good features to use.

Thanks Gordon, I had no idea this was an ant!
In the same vicinity there was another winged insect that looked like an ant. I thought it was interesting because its abdomen was nearly transparent. I'll upload a picture of it. If you think it could be related I will link to it.

Yah male "Argies" can be tricky that way due to their somewhat exaggerated shapes. I have posted a note on the other image you mentioned.
