Size: ~1.6cm without antennae
Megacyllene? I do not have a dorsal view.
In any case, that remarkable wasp mimic was found on a blooming bush in a moderately dense juniper / oak formation on the side of Rd#377, just east from the Rd#277/377 bifurcation.
