Projecta Gray - Cleora projecta - female

Projecta Gray - Cleora projecta - Female
Greenwood County, South Carolina, USA
March 11, 2005
Size: ~45mm wingspan
We've settled on this being Cleora projecta. See original comments below.

Found on the side of my house near a light at night. I'm overwhelmed by the number of moths in Covell, so pointing me in the general direction would be appreciated.

Try this avenue
It's definitely a Geometrid (looper). I don't know the southern species but take a look at Plate 32b, pinned moths, on Bob Patterson's MPG website. Looks like it should be around the #6460 series.

Cleora?
Thanks Tony,

What do you think of #6594 Cleora sublunaria or #6595 Cleora projecta?

I think the C. projecta images look closer on the MPG site, but the Covell description for C. sublunaria seems closer as my impression was that the moth was more greenish than purplish.

projecta
Pattern of lines on wings is more important than colour for id. It's projecta.
