Laphria? - Bombus griseocollis

Laphria? - Bombus griseocollis
Jackson Lake State Park, Morgan County, Colorado, USA
September 8, 2016
Area of weeds, cottonwoods, willows, Russian Olives around a reservoir in the midst of sandy shortgrass prairie. In one spot, 10+ of these were in a small area. I tried to follow one. It would perch on a leaf giving it a good attack view. It would make sorties out and return... or another Laphria would come by and either chase it, or it would chase. This continuous activity actually made photography difficult. It seems most like flavicollis or thoracica, but not quite -- if this is indeed Bombus, what would prompt such behavior. Courtship?
