Instructions for Authors
If you have an idea for something you'd like to see published on this web site, create an article here. Articles will be accessed from an articles link in the main menu bar at the top of screen.
Articles should be consistent with the mission of the site. Articles will be for content that doesn't easily fit into guide pages and should be more formal that what you might consider for a forum topic.
Here's some ideas for articles:
Identification keys using photos from the guide
Frequently asked questions about particular subjects
Groupings of photos as quick identification guides
In-depth descriptions of behaviors such as mimicry
How to's such as attracting insects with native gardening or techniques for macro photography
Even formal articles that might otherwise be submitted to a journal
The content should be original, of course. If you're unclear whether something is appropriate for an article, post your query here. If you'd like to see a particular article, you may wish to enter a request here.
When creating your article just create your topic and include 'DRAFT:' as the first word in the title. Take as much time as you need and I would suggest that others refrain from commenting on works in progress.
When you are ready for others to comment change 'DRAFT:' to 'FOR REVIEW:'. You may wish to include questions for reviewers to answer.
After you receive comments you may wish to go back to DRAFT status. Once you're satisfied with the article, simply specify 'COMPLETE:' as the first word in the title. I'll periodically check this forum and move completed articles to the articles section of the web site.
