Hemileuca eglanterina

Hemileuca eglanterina
Portola, Plumas County, California, USA
September 16, 2016
Size: 4-5 cm
We were watering our fruit trees, and a pinkish and yellow moth emerged from a hole near where we were watering. It walked around and flapped its wings a bit to dry off. Location where the moth was sighted, is a fenced portion of our property, which has a mixture of sagebrush, black oak, and ponderosa pine.

Elegant Sheep Moth
Species Hemileuca eglanterina see here: (1) - a day moth common in Lassen and Plumas counties. They can be almost all black, and they can have no black at all; but mostly they look like this one that you photographed. They are fast flyers in the woods up near Westwood.
