I agree - in this and all MPG, BOLD images the orbicular spot is more pointed, less rounded than for serano. serano also usually has a larger hollow arrowpoint mark below mid PM line than the small dark mark or dot of herculeana. Congrats for digging this out. Though it was the only one I remember collecting, I still figured it was going to turn out being some Western variety of a common trash cutworm pest.
