Tawny Emperor Caterpillar (Asterocampa clyton) - Asterocampa

Tawny Emperor Caterpillar (Asterocampa clyton) - Asterocampa
Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
September 8, 2016
I have seen these 1.5 inch caterpillars in recent weeks. There's usually about 3 or 4 of them and they hang out on the same tree branch each night. They're about 1.5 inches long and always active. I took pictures a week ago of one in particular, it looked very fat and the leaf if was on was covered in cocoon silk, yet it never made a cocoon. these guys are hairless but have "fuzzy antlers", I don't know of a better way to describe them. I cannot find an ID for these and I have looked in several places on the web.

Looks to be
one of the Asterocampa, not sure which one

Thanks
Thanks for narrowing down the possibilities. Looks like a Tawny Emperor (Asterocampa clyton). The Hackberry variety (Asterocampa celtis) has a darker and spinier head.
