Dipalta sp.
The wing vein pattern (near the apex) is unique to this genus. This might be Dipalta serpentina, which is the more widespread species, but I'm not sure. Expert help is needed here.

Veins
Is there a good resource for wing venation for various bee fly genera? And thanks for narrowing the ID front!

BugGuide is best, of course!
If you check the info tab on that species, there is a link to a drawing of that species on the Drawwing website: ♂ Dipalta serpentina, wing
Otherwise, shots like your's are the best reference, most of the time. Still, other people may be able to point you to another resource.

Dipalta
Egads! I looked at its congener, the Huron Shore Fly, decided that my fly wasn't that and somehow utterly missed D. serpentina. Not the first time I've flown past the correct species. Thanks for the reference and the guidance.
