Big Headed Bug that Bites Hard - Neoscapteriscus

Big Headed Bug that Bites Hard - Neoscapteriscus
Fort Rucker, Dale County, Alabama, USA
September 27, 2016
Size: 1.25 inches
It's had no wings, 2 spikes on it's butt and a really big head . I scooped it up in a bath mat and it bit the Mat hard enough where I could feel the vibrations. No this is not a grasshopper, but I have no clue what it is it was the size of my thumb

mole cricket
They do have wings - held flat down the back. Harmless to humans, but can damage turfgrass. The "biting" was probably it trying to dig - they are among the fastest and most powerful diggers in the insect world
