Western Tiger Swallowtail Larva 1st-3rd Instar - Papilio rutulus

Western Tiger Swallowtail Larva 1st-3rd Instar - Papilio rutulus
San Clemente, Orange County, California, USA
September 26, 2016
Size: mm
I thought i was a fast eater these can Plow through leaves. its eating lots now makes a little bit of webbing to hold onto while eating then it ate half a leaf in no time at all. increasing in size the section where the head starts seems to be able to detach from the body there is a seam there allowing the head to turn from side to side. When disturbed it pulls its head back and holds still shrinking is size a lot. This Photo was taken on 09/28/16
