Moth with Hair-pencil in the lantana? - Diaphania nitidalis

Moth with Hair-pencil in the lantana? - Diaphania nitidalis
Americus, Sumter County, Georgia, USA
October 1, 2016
Found this unusual moth in the lantana this afternoon.

Nectar sources are different from larval food sources.
Almost any nectar will do for an adult, especially one that gets it up high and showing off for the opposite sex. Egg laying would be another matter. That only happens on the larval food plants

Pickleworm?

no squash, melons or cucumbers in the garden
Why would a pickleworm moth visit the lantana? Definitely not a preferred food source, based on what I've read.
