This moth should be placed in genus Carmenta most likely C. ithacae based upon the date, location and the faint abdomenal banding and the "key" preapical white antenna spot. S. tipuliformis does not have white preapical spots based upon the MONA 5.1 description and species key.

Yes, the currant clearwing borer indeed. The characteristic resting position and the huge, fan-shaped, brown-black hair pencils are a good give-away of this species.
