Family Syrphidae-Syrphid Flies, ID please - Tropidia albistylum - Male
Skidaway Island, Savannah 31411, Chatham County, Georgia, USA
October 4, 2016
Syrphid fly with large rear femur, no spiny projectiles as with Syritta pipens, though that species is present here on our Georgia barrier island location. I believe it is a male (eyes joined) (Meromacrus acutus). It was located upon Goldenrod (Solidago sempervirens).(my possible ID on photos comparison only). Request ID please?

Bill- thanks greatly for your identification with commentary, it being Tropidia albistylum .... male. My image submission appears identical to Photo#1036010.

This will be Syrphid fly species # 9 now identified at our 150 yard "Pollinator Garden Berm", wonderful biological pest controle for the aphids on our 8 milkweed species we have planted for the migrating Monarch, as well as the Queen.
